Solo roadtrips are great reminders of who you are. I like hearing my thoughts & looping playlists at full blast.

TBH, I also wanted to see if I could sleep alone without being scared or being in a tent.

Unpopular opinion for an outdoorsy gal, but I just really glamping. So does my back.

Therefore, I've become a big fan of HIPCAMP! The airbnb of the outdoors. So, I booked a bunkie.

FYI: Bunkies are small, multi-use cabins on a property. I now see bunkie potential everywhere (dog house, tool shed, etc.)

the trip:

I stayed in Flesherton, Ontario. It's a 2.5H drive from Toronto, if you don't leave during rush hour.

Check out this magical bunkie that I stayed in! Ben the owner is super helpful & responsive. I got a bit lost on the way but he helped me out.

Review the map and directions twice before going! Look for landmarks on the map to recognize.

It's 100 acres of farm/forest, so I definitely heard a lot of internal thoughts while being this isolated from people, "OMFG DID I JUST HEAR FOOTSTEPS?" Because everything sounds like a footstep when there's millions of water drops hitting leaves.

This led to some awesome breathing practices to calm myself down & rationalize the situation. It was refreshing to see myself "lean on myself" because there was no one else around.

In addition to the falling "footsteps" & rain, I woke up to the sound of chickadees scooping up the remaining seeds on the plants outside the window. I got to eat my meals & observe them from inside this beautiful bunkie.

Fall is the perfect time to see the deciduous trees perform their self-care. They are taking their energy inward from their leaves into their trunk in anticipation for the hard times (winter) ahead. Legit what I felt like I was doing by going on this solo trip.

There is no power or bathroom in the bunkie, so it is essentially "a well-built tent" equipped with two mattress pads.

I loved bringing my own pre-made snacks inside: cooked chickpeas & veggies, power bars & almond milk & eating them beside the wall-size window.

I also made time for the things I have easily put off for the last 30 years of my life; doing yoga, singing & belting it out, reading everything I own & just being a human on my lonesome.

When you head into downtown Flesherton, you'll notice a downtown that feels like a community came together & decided, "what are the things we actually need?"

Voila: Art, music, eco-friendly goods, delicious food, etc. The Flesherton Art Gallery is a hub for all artists & has an incredible mural of different people & events that shape(d) our world. Give it a wander.

Pardon me? An eco-refillary in FLESHERTON? Yes, on the corner of highway 10 & 4. This adorable & naturally lit shop has everything to make your wellness dreams come true. Candles, makeup, clothing, oils, etc. BYOJ (bring your own jar) so the item can be weighed, filled, weighed again & purchased. No plastic packaging required! Take a step into a low waste lifestyle.

The Bicycle Cafe is a great spot to sit, relax & enjoy some high quality & healthy food. *It is very vegan friendly.*

Order any of the sandwiches or paninis if you want something hearty that'll knock your wool socks off. (Recommend: banh mi with tofu)

The menu is fresh, ethical & sometimes even seasonally and locally sourced when possible.

There's also a nice playlist & overall eclectic vibe happening.

Check out the wall of boardgames when it isn't too busy. I had a blast playing scrabble!
